When an older feature is looking tired, needs some creativity, or even some tender loving care, we can give them a pond beautification makeover and turn it into a feature you will enjoy. This is a specialty of ours and we have done hundreds of small to medium rebuilds/updates over the last 18 years. It is very satisfying and rewarding to work on a feature and transform it into something that someone now loves to sit beside and is happy with.
We rebuild streams by adding feature effects throughout the stream. Creating creative water movement by using hand-picked rocks that look like water has been flowing over them for decades. As the water flows effortlessly through our well-placed rocks, it provides that soothing, tranquil sound with each effect we create. We typically like to make several spots, being mindful of keeping them all a soothing sound so you don’t have one dominant noise. That way, your stream will sound different from every angle and create a harmony of all of the gurgling sounds. Not only do they sound great, but you also get to see the water working its way down the stream, which is visually pleasing & relaxing and adds character. Personally, this is the sound we like to do as the tranquility it creates is… priceless.
We also build streams with higher flow in case you need added sound to cover up a specific noise. We use the same Dragonfly creativity but extra attention is needed to ensure that potential splash is kept in the streams liner.
Waterfalls are our most common rebuild/repair item. We can get all of the water flowing over the waterfall rock again, level the waterfall rock to get better water distribution, add guides to get the water coming over the front rather than the sides, or even rebuild the waterfall face, just to name a few common repairs. Depending on the look you are after, we can replace the waterfall rock with one that can give you a beautiful sheen of water across it or something with more character. We can also rebuild the waterfall face with nice stacked slate or with blocky Kettle Valley rock.
Another project getting very popular with established ponds is turning them into pondless ponds. We build a large reservoir where the current pond is and use pond blocks, backfill, and then create your new pond on top. Pondless ponds are very popular with our new features, as the pump and plumbing are hidden in the blocks and the pond has a layer of rock covering the pond blocks. When we are finished, you visually only see a shallow pond that is roughly 5 inches deep, but with the blocks that you don’t see, it is much deeper. This shallow “beach” makes cleaning much easier, easier for pets to use, and safer as it is a much shallower depth and it’s sturdy to walk on. Another option you have with this style of pond is to drop the water level below the “beach” so that no water is showing. This works great if you have small children and for fall cleanup if you have a lot of leaves.
We can add planting areas to your water feature and plant them with standard pond plants, flowering beauties or even tropical plants, ones that like wet bums. Plants are a beautiful way to take a rocky feature, soften it and take it to a whole new level. When we finish a build, clients are very happy with their feature but when we add plants, they love it even more. Not only do the plants help with the pond ecosystem, but they also add a splash of colour, movement, and tranquility for you to enjoy.
