We are great at building, repairing and updating water features so that they look great, but when you add plants, they become beautiful! A pond is a lot of rock hardscape, and when plants are added it definitely softens the rocky look.
One of the best benefits of pond plants is, you don’t have to water them. (At least as long as the pond has water in it). There are actually many benefits of having plants in your water feature. They really help with the ecosystem, the plants are providing shade for the pond and the roots are helping to process the nutrients in the pond. Certain types of plants can provide cover for the fish, protecting them from predators. Of course there is your benefit of seeing flowers and foliage throughout the season.
Pond plants come in many varieties. You have the common pond plants that can be used to give the pond a natural look. Some of these plants will give you flowers to enjoy but you will need to get annuals to get the real flowering beauties. We also have various grasses, plants with beautiful foliage and papyrus plants to beautify your pond.
You do need to be careful with the type of plant you put in your pond. Certain varieties are very invasive. Horse tail will work its way out of your pond and continue throughout your landscape if allowed. The yellow iris and full size bulrushes will take over the pond and have a root system up to 2 feet thick.
